International Fuel Trade Agreement Report (IFTA)

What is IFTA? IFTA or The International Fuel Tax Agreement is an agreement between the lower 48 states of the United States and the Canadian provinces, to simplify the reporting of fuel use by motor carriers that operate in more than one jurisdiction. An operating carrier with IFTA receives an IFTA license and two decals for each qualifying vehicle it operates. The carrier files a quarterly fuel tax report. This report is used to determine the net tax or refund due and to redistribute taxes from collecting states to states that it is due.

For many new drivers, as well as experienced owner operators, understanding the IFTA is something most leave to finance professionals & consultants. Assured tracking’s ELD solution on Wialon’s platform includes IFTA reporting to help carriers be compliant. The solution is easy to use and can eliminate IFTA outsourcing to save time and money. The same data as the what’s being gathered as part of the core ELD solution is leveraged to produce key components for IFTA reporting. To get that information customers need to simply access the web portal, and locate the IFTA tab. Administrators can pull based on the time frame (quarterly) or by vehicle. There’s an ability to generate reporting for jurisdictions needed and after - export it into the pdf file. The IFTA reporting gets automatically enabled when a driver crosses state lines. Odometer data from the vehicle computer provides mileage info, which then gets split into IFTA miles and non-IFTA, and using the ELD application the driver inputs where he added fuel to the tank. The application does the rest.

Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR)

What is a DVIR? A DVIR is a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report, which needs to be completed daily by drivers for any commercial vehicle they operate, as specified by Federal Law 49 CFR 396.11 and 396.13 and enforced by the DOT.

The application is included with Assured tracking’s ELD solution on Wialon’s platform. The solution can be used on any Android or iOS based smartphone or tablet device. The driver would need to log into the application using their device. The next step would be adding the vehicle information, and start the inspection. The software has a truck and trailer inspection screen with options to select any damages they see. Once the inspection is completed the drivers are able to add remarks, capture signatures, and add images. Finally, the driver can upload the report in PDF format to easily view it when he needs it. Once wirelessly uploaded, the back office will have immediate access via the online portal. In the portal the document will be filed under the driver’s credentials for up to 1 year. Any period that goes beyond the most recent 13 months can be accessed by submitting an email request. The solution saves all reports online and locally on the device. This ensures reports are always accessible regardless of cellular coverage.
